Dr. Frank Pittman, NCTM

Dr. Frank Pittman is a nationally-certified teacher of music and is an independent piano teacher in Durham, NC. Many of his students have won highest honors in regional competitions.  Last summer, one of his students was accepted to participate in the 2015 Dublin International Piano Festival in Ireland.  Dr. Pittman has performed as recitalist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician throughout the United States and in Europe; he has also appeared in live broadcast over British Radio. As an experienced adjudicator, Dr. Pittman judges piano competitions throughout the United States.  He is also regularly invited to server as adjudicator of piano performance at the Hong Kong Schools Music Competition.  A former piano instructor at Meredith College, Dr. Pittman was the co-facilitator of the Chopin Festival and performed the complete series of Mozart's violin sonatas with violinist Carol Chung as part of the Mozart at Meredith celebration. He has joined forces with Chung, violist David Marschall, and cellist Bonnie Thron as founding members of the Quercus Quartet. His teachers have included Robert Morris, Duke Miles, Harvey Wedeen, Lambert Orkis, Joseph Di Piazza, and Walter Hautzig. A frequent lecturer, adjudicator, and master class clinician, he has served on the faculties of Meredith College, the Governor's School of North Carolina, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Actors Center in Philadelphia, the Durham School of the Arts.  He has also been guest Lecturer of Music Theatre at Temple University and has taught as sabbatical replacement at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Pittman is a member of music honor fraternity Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha, and the Music Teachers National Association.  He has served as president of the NC Music Teachers Association and currently serves as scholarship chair for the Durham Music Teachers Association.
